I failed the subject because of the teacher is a very common excuse students use to cope failure. All around the world, a lot of people think that the teacher is the mere responsible character that promotes learning. It is common to see that students who miss classes, never review their notes and rarely hand in homework tell their parents the teacher does not like them. Then parents go to the school and blame the teacher for the failure. Obviously, this is unfair; however, sometimes the teacher may not be creating an appropriate atmosphere to promote meaningful learning with his students. Therefore, a language teacher has to understand the importance of interactive language teaching and all the advantages of group work techniques.

On first had, with a collaborative exchange of thoughts, feelings, and ideas, Interactive language teaching offers us the opportunity of not only teaching our students but learning from them. For example, in a class where the only person who talks is the teacher, students usually start doodling on their notebooks, throw papers, or talk since what the teacher is saying is considered irrelevant and boring. On the other hand, if a teacher brings an interesting topic to class and lets students come up with their ideas, the students will get engaged and excited to participate. As a matter of fact, the answer of one student may trigger a reaction that will make his classmates participate. Therefore it is not only listening the teacher but working together to share and discuss information.

To develop that collaborative exchange of thoughts, the teacher applying 7 fundamental principles has to guide carefully the class. First, to reach strategically investment and intrinsic motivations, the teacher has to use appropriate questions that let the student seek information. This questions should not been too obvious, vague or complex. Second, to initiate a chain reaction of student interaction, has to make students be willing to communicate their ideas and take risks. Third, the teacher must use interlanguage appropriately to help the student reflect and with automaticity improve his language skills. Finally, a teacher must let students express their opinion no matter their cultural beliefs. With all of this teachers help students develop their own strategies to succeed.

On second hand, since a second language cannot be learned in isolation, workgroup takes a relevant role in second language teaching.  First, group work is a wonderful interactive technique that allows students to learn from each other, to participate, to promote responsibility and to become autonomous. Most important, group work offers a variety of techniques that help the teacher manage large classes. Although some teachers claim that group work is just letting students do what they want, it helps students develop self-confidence to meaningfully use the language.

This video show us how studentw work together pursuing the same objective.
